Wow! What is The Pride Center?
This is The Pride Center-welcome! We are a space for LGBTQIA+ identifying students, staff, faculty, and alumnx.
When are you open?
We are open from Monday – Friday year-round. Hours vary depending on the time of year.
What does The Pride Center do?
The Pride Center is primarily a lounge space and resource center but also hosts various events centered around LGBTQIA+ diversity, equity, inclusion, & social justice (DEISJ). We are also a resource for both undergraduate & graduate students who have questions about LGBTQIA+ diversity at the intersection of their other identities, such as race, ethnicity, religion, ability status, etc.
Am I still able to be here if I don’t identify with the LGBTQIA+ community?
Of course! We welcome people from all backgrounds regardless of their sex, gender (identity), gender expression, sexual orientation, and romantic orientation.
I’m not an undergrad student, can I still use this space?
Yes! It is open to everyone on campus.
Who or where can I talk to/about my religious/spiritual or ethnic identities?
The Pride Center is one of three identity-based spaces within i3b. Although we approach all of our work through an intersectional lens, we have additional department spaces that more specifically center these communities. This includes our Gathering Space for Spiritual Well-Being serving our religious and spiritual communities, while The Mosaic: Center for Cultural Diversity serves community members from underrepresented racial, ethnic, and national backgrounds.
Are you a student org? How can I join?
We are not a student org; we are a departmental lounge space and resource center under the Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion, and Belonging (i3b) within the Division of Student Affairs that is open to all. Feel free to come in during our operating hours!
Can I report an act of hate/discrimination/bias here?
Yes, you can report incidents of bias here. However, please recognize that as university staff, both our professional & student staff are mandated reporters. As such, we are required to report to the Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI), which handles all bias & hate-related issues on campus. You can submit an anonymous OEI report online.
I’m a student leader! How can I collaborate with you?
Feel free to email our Pride Center Interns. Their information is available in our staff bios on our website.
Are we allowed to reserve the space?
Yes, you can! This space is free to use for student organizations but may have small fees that apply for departmental use. Email our staff at i3b@umbc.edu or reserve via 25Live if you have any questions.
