Date & Time
September 11, 2023, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Description
Join us in The Mosaic, 2B23 The Commons to learn more about LOTUS, a new peer mentoring program launching this spring for Asian, Pacific Islander, and Desi American undergraduate students here at UMBC. This drop-in information meeting is an opportunity to learn more about LOTUS, when applications will open for mentors, requirements, and participate in a conversation around belonging for APIDA students at UMBC.
As this is a drop-in information meeting if you're unable to stay the whole time, or need to head out early for another meeting or class, that is alright!
If you have any questions, please email Angelina R. Jenkins, Assistant Director with Initiatives for Identity, Inclusions, & Belonging (i3b) for The Mosaic: Center for Cultural Diversity at arjenkins@umbc.edu.
LOTUS is an an identity-based peer mentoring program targeted at supporting undergraduate APIDA students at UMBC. This mentoring program will use a Holistic Critical Mentoring (Hunt, 22) model to center culturally specific needs while focusing on academic, social, and cultural development. With a primary goal of building cultural confidence through peer-to-peer connections, APIDA students will increase their sense of belonging, build community connections, and have a deeper understanding of their racial and ethnic identity. LOTUS will also be internationally certified through the College Reading and Learning Association.
