About

Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging (i3b) is a department grounded in intergroup dialogue, radical compassion, cultural story-telling, and creating “entry points” for every person on our campus. In our Dialogue, Training, and Social Justice Education work, we focus on equipping campus community members with the awareness, knowledge, skills, and dispositions to navigate cross-cultural difference, become inclusive community leaders, facilitate difficult conversations, and practice critical self-reflection in ways that lead to greater cultural humility.

History

UMBC is an institution that encourages the thoughtful exchange of ideas. The Division of Student Affairs has offered various resources on how to use your voice and engage with the campus community in ways that uphold our community values, align with legal guidelines and university policies and practices, and honor everyone’s right to freedom of expression. Originating within the Vice President’s Office for The Division of Student Affairs, the Dialogue, Training, and Social Justice Education area within i3b was built in connection with this vision and in connection to our institutional value of Inclusive Excellence.
